Red Deporte promoting health in Cameroon

Red Deporte carries out a health intervention in the Eastern Region of Cameroon that combines education for health with health care for the most vulnerable population, especially children and young people and young mothers. The health action takes place in the clinic Nkol – Bikon supporting the vaccination program, consultation of general and pediatric medicine, as well as ultrasound diagnosis.

In community schools, the football-based activities focuses on basic health promotion and the fight against HIV-AIDS and malaria, as main risk factors in the area. As part of the health education program, 40 monitors and educators are trained to use football and play as an intervention tool in community health, through educational activities.

Both the voluntary health personnel and the local monitors work together in the Cameroonian schools with the aim of improving the population’s health in the settlements near Bertoua, capital of the East Region of Cameroon, which have a high rate of refugee population. Since 2012, more than 3,000 people have benefited from our program in Cameroon, with a high proportion of children and young people.
