DONOSTI CUP AWARDS TO RED DEPORTE WITH “UNICEF PRIZE”

Donosti Cup, the most prestigious international football tournament in Spain and one of the most important in the world, has awarded the UNICEF prize to the Zambia team of Red Deporte. The 25th edition of Donosti Cup has counted with the participation of 623 teams of more than 20 nationalities.
In the words of Iñigo Olaizola, director of Donosti Cup, the choice of Red Deporte has been «for the conditions in which they work in favour of football, for the effort they have had to make to be able to participate in the tournament, and above all for the fighter, cheerful and supportive character of their players».
Our Zambian team, made up of girls from the Young and Disadvantaged Women’s Support Programme in Zambia, have had the privilege of spending a week with young people from all over the world, not only playing football, but also enjoying and sharing a unique experience, which they will carry in their memories for life. The sports brand Nike has been our sponsor to equip City Strikers. While our team has conceded a few goals, the victory of illusion, effort and motivation has been overwhelmingly in our favour.
Our participation in Donosti Cup, moreover, has been worth to give visibility to our project and to live a few unique months before and after the tournament. Our most sincere thanks to Donosti Cup and UNICEF for designating Red Deporte for such a precious award.
